halogen lamp switch replacement
Hi- I have a halogen floor lamp like this: http://www.darkcyan.com/forsale/imag...floor_lamp.JPG it is a 500watt max lamp which has a dimmer switch in it like this Amazon.com: Angelo Brothers 70801 Halogen Dimmer for Torchiere Lamps: Home Improvement Having never really used it on a dim setting, I usually just turn it on full. Now the switch is broken. While I can order the one from Amazon above, I have switches likes this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=060-096 just lying around. It is a 15a/120v rocker...can't I just replace the dimmer with a switch like this one? I ask because inside the dimmer, there is a resister and something to dissipate heat...I'm no electrician, but i think this is only necessary to dim the light and dissipate the excess energy. I just don't want to melt the switch or create a fire hazard. A regular switch should be fine.
