A broken LCD TV isn't of much use to those who wish to watch television or play video games. However, whether your LCD screen has color distortion, display issues or is outright smashed, there may still be a few things to do with the unit, even if it is no longer capable of performing its original task. Dealing with a broken LCD TV requires a little creativity and an honest assessment of how badly broken the television actually is.
Recycle It
Many older model LCD televisions contain harmful chemicals, such as mercury, which means they should not be set out for the trash man or dumped in a landfill. In fact, most landfills will not accept materials with toxic components. If your television is broken beyond repair, check out the recycling options available in your city. You can usually find a city-sponsored electronics recycling program that accepts LCD screens, or you may be able to return your television to the manufacturer for recycling.
Repair It
There are many television repair shops in the world, and most of them offer some sort of LCD repair service. Find a shop in your area and explain the situation to them to get an idea of what it may cost to fix your LCD. Some fixes are simple and will not end up being expensive, while others may total out to be more than the television was originally worth. Be realistic with your expectations and you should be able to make a good decision on whether LCD repair is right for you.
Sell It
If you want to make a little bit of money back on your investment, there are a few niche buyers that purchase broken LCD televisions, repair them and resell them at a profit. Additionally, some buyers may not mind a broken TV. For instance, buyers may not mind that the speakers don't work if they're planning to connect the TV to a surround sound system. Once again, this depends entirely on how broken your TV may be, but if the damage is minor, you may be able to find a buyer through Craigslist, eBay or a local repair shop.
