Edgar Cayce Treatment For Thyroid Cancer

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) is considered by his followers to be the father of modern holistic medicine. A 20th century psychic, his extensive writings and philosophies focus on health and the balance of an individual, addressing prevention and treatment of cancer.

Significance

Cayce provided what he called "readings" and health advice for individuals suffering from cancer. Cayce examined what he called imbalances of the thyroid, or an "incoordination" of the glands; treatment depended on individual circumstance and the causes of each case.

Theories/Speculation

Cayce believed cancer to represent a failure of natural bodily processes resulting in waste accumulation and toxin buildup. He also hypothesized that cancer could be cured with a mental and spiritual approach and that carcinoma was occasionally brought about by a karmic pattern from past lives.

Function

Cayces' suggestion for cancer treatment centered on eliminating toxicity with a variety of natural foods and holistic therapies. "On the whole, natural therapies that worked with the body to heal itself were given priority," according the Association for Research and Enlightenment, an organization Cayce founded in 1931.

Prevention/Solution

The Edgar Cayce treatment for cancers included adherence to a strict diet, manual therapy (spinal manipulation), and hydrotherapy (castor oil packs and colon therapy), utilization of ultra-violet light therapy, consumption of beef broth and development of constructive attitudes and emotions.

Additional Insight

Cayce felt that the endocrine system (including the thyroid) was the connection between body and spirit and that a growth on the thyroid indicated a propensity toward telepathy or clairvoyance.
