Oils For Aromatic Perfumes

Perfume is made with a mixture of aromatic and essential oils. Each recipe for aromatic oil is different and possesses different base notes and undertones. There are hundreds of fragrance oils, both manufactured and derived from plants, that are available for perfume making.

Lavender

Essential oil of lavender is often used in both men and women's fragrances because of its scent and camphor-like qualities. It is derived from the lavender plant, which is a beautiful and highly fragrant herb with bright purple blooms. It is commonly used in aromatherapy products for massage and scented candles.

Jasmine

Essential oil of jasmine is a highly fragrant scent derived from the jasmine flower. It is often used as a base note in women's perfumes because of its strong scent. Two or three drops is really all it takes for a six-ounce bottle of perfume, if it's mixed with other aromatic oils.

Allspice

Allspice oil is distilled from the berries and leaves of the pimento plant and is a popular base scent in men's colognes and bath products. It possesses a strong, spicy scent with earthy undertones that go great in aftershaves and shaving gels.

Blue Cypress

Blue cypress essential oil has a sweet and fresh scent that is ideal for masculine cologne and shower products. The fragrance produced by this aromatic oil is strong and spicy enough for men but light and airy so as to not be overbearing.

Basil

Essential oil of basil is used in perfumes for its earthy scent. Basil makes a great medium tone in perfumes and is used in fragrances for both men and women.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood is loved for its woody and floral scent, and its ability to be a unisex fragrance. It is a great base note and is used in perfumes, incense and other products.
