Instructions For A Stair Chair

A stair chair helps people who have difficulty climbing up and down stairs.

A stair chair is a helpful device for people who have mobility problems. As the name implies, a stair chair is an aid that specifically assists those who have difficulty climbing up and down stairs. When it's not in use, you can fold it up so it's not in the way of others using the stairs. Manufacturers of stair chairs make them easy to use. Still, there are dos and don'ts that you need to know about this product.

Instructions

1. Use the handle on the side of the stair chair to allow the seat to swivel at the bottom or top landing. This makes it easier to get on the chair. Sit on the center of the seat. Place the footrest down and fasten the seat belt, if applicable, around your waist or chest before you operate the chair.

2. Locate the control switch. It may be underneath one of the armrests. Push the switch down to move either up or down the stairs. The stair chair will automatically stop when it reaches the top or bottom of the track. You can stop it anytime you wish by releasing the switch.

3. Grab the handle again to swivel the chair seat to the side so you can stand up and step out. Use the handle to return the seat to its normal frontal position. Pull the seat up to fold up the stair chair so it's out of the way. Fold-up the footrest in the same manner.

Tips Warnings

If there's an obstruction in the way of the chair track, the unit will stop until the object is moved.

Arms are an optional feature on stair chairs. If your unit has arms, they need to be lowered to ride the chair. They can be lifted up to get out of the chair. The arms also lift up when you fold the chair up to get it out of the way for others using the stairs.

Teach at least one other member of the household or a neighbor operate the stair chair in case you need emergency assistance.

Keep your stair chair clean. Refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions.

Contact the dealer for maintenance if they don't automatically schedule your chair for it.

Never exceed the weight capacity of the stair chair. Don't give children or pets a ride, or let them play with it. The chair is designed to carry one person at a time.

Never stand on the stair chair, always sit on your buttocks.

If the chair doesn't work properly, discontinue use and contact the dealer for repairs.
