Troubleshoot Kohler Faucets K15162 With Blocked Flow

The Kohler K-15162 single-handle pullout kitchen faucet is a discontinued model from the company's Coralais Series. These faucets are made to resist water-quality problems, but with the passage of time, seals and other parts may collect sediment, and clog. This causes a drop in overall water temperature or poor control of water flow and temperature together. If some simple troubleshooting steps don't clear the issue, the fastest and surest way to fix such flow problems is to replace the cartridge, the part that controls water flow. It is a project a homeowner can accomplish in less than an hour.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water to your Kohler faucet by closing the valves under the sink.

2. Take off the handle by removing the screw at the base of the Kohler K-15162 faucet with an Allen wrench and pulling up on the handle. Remove the bonnet and the limit stop, a small, round part on top of the bonnet.

3. Tighten the retaining nut, the round part under the bonnet, with a pair of pliers. Reassemble the faucet by replacing the handle and tightening the screw. Turn on the water and test to see if this solves the problem. If not, remove the handle, bonnet and limit stop again. Then unscrew and remove the retaining nut with pliers.

4. Take out the cartridge, and thoroughly wash it with water, clearing the blockage and sediments from inside. Replace the cartridge, and assemble the faucet again. Turn on the water. If the problem is not resolved, turn off the water, and take the faucet apart again by removing the handle, bonnet, limit stop and retaining nut.

5. Pull out the cartridge, and replace it with a new one. Replace the retaining nut, bonnet and limit stop; then, reattach the handle. Turn on the water, and operate the faucet.
