Natural Oils For Memory Loss

Some natural oils help prevent the onset of memory loss.

Memory loss is a state in which a person experiences a mild decline in the ability to recall information. Memory loss is one of the primary effects of aging. One of the most common symptoms of this condition is the inability to recall names, places and dates. While memory loss reduces the ability of a person to remember facts, it does not diminish his capacity to process information. Fortunately, natural oils can reduce the risk of memory loss.

Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acids, components found in fatty fish, make some fish oils---such as cod liver oil---among the most effective for reducing the risk of memory loss. A recent study presented at the Alzheimer's Association 2009 International Conference involved learning and memory skills in those 55 and older. According to the research, people who had been taking omega-3 fatty acid supplements for six months scored higher than people who took a placebo.

Cod liver oil is a rich source of vitamins such as D and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. It helps in the proper functions of the brain and nervous system, and is helpful in memory loss problems. Aside from memory loss, cod liver oil also helps prevent high cholesterol problems by increasing good cholesterol levels.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is used to treat various health problems, such as high blood pressure and Alzheimer's disease. Oleocanthal, a substance in olive oil, blocks protein toxins that damage brain cells and cause memory loss. Consuming one shot of olive oil in the morning works wonders in preventing memory loss.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is a popular natural remedy because of its therapeutic properties and its pleasant smell. Rosemary oil comes from the oil extracted from rosemary leaves. The rosemary plant is a "brain herb" because of its efficacy in stimulating mental processes. Students can benefit from rosemary oil during examination time because it stimulates to focus and study more effectively. This wonder plant can also treat skin diseases, small cuts, respiratory problems and intestinal illnesses, plus improve circulation of the blood, strengthen the vessels and promote weight loss.

Cinnamon Oil

Cinnamon is popular spice in cooking and baking. Its oil is known to stimulate the appetite, disinfect, fight cholesterol and indigestion and soothe the mind. The scent of cinnamon oil boosts brain activity, according to research done by the Wheeling Jesuit University. Cinnamon oil helps prevent memory loss and nervous tension.
