Remove A Grohe Faucet

Grohe pull-out kitchen faucets generally are a sleek one-piece design where both the hot and cold water are controlled with a single faucet and the faucet head also acts as a hand-held sprayer. The design often means the faucets are much simpler to remove than the standard faucet and two water handle control valves. Some European styles of Grohe may be configured differently than this Grohe removal guide instructs.

Instructions

1. Unscrew and remove the aerator from the Grohe faucet if possible. Turn the water on.

2. Turn off both the hot water and cold water inlet supply valves (look like two faucets) in the cupboard below the sink. There should be two wire mesh or plastic flexible hoses attached to them which is also attached to the Grohe faucet below the sink. Place the empty bucket below the two water outlets below the sink to catch any water.

3. Use the adjustable wrench to unscrew the compression fittings holding the flexible or wire mesh hoses from off the inlet supply valves. Apply gentle pressure to ensure the copper pipes on the other side of the inlet supply valves do not break or bend. A second wrench may be used on the nut below the compression fitting to act as a fulcrum on removing the fitting.

4. Remove the hose weight. It will have two screws; turn the appropriate screwdriver to the left to loosen the screws. The screw may not remove all the way, however the device should pull apart when they are loosened enough. The counterweight will need removing before the faucet can be removed from the sink.

5. Remove the circular nut on the underside of the sink from the hole which the Grohe hoses are fed through. There should be a horseshoe shaped nut or washer and a circular metal washer. Loosen and remove the circular metal washer using the basin wrench.

6. Slide the circular metal washer down and off the hoses. Loosen and slide the plastic or metal horseshoe shaped washer down and off the hoses. Remove all gaskets and mesh wrings which may be between these two nuts and the sink above.

7. Carefully slide the Grohe faucet up and old of the sink from above, with one person guiding the supply line hoses from underneath. Carefully hold the faucet above the sink and allow any remaining water to drain into the sink.

8. Clean the sink, the area below the sink, and the sink hole where the Grohe faucet was installed of any debris, dirt, plumber's putty, or lime scale.

Tips Warnings

If the water in the sink above does not turn off when these two valves are turned to the shut off position then the water main will have to be shut off. This is usually located outside in warmer climates (winter temps above 40 degrees F) and inside in the basement or washroom of colder climates (winter temperatures below 40 degrees F). Some counties require the water main to be shut off and turned on by the city water company.

When removing the water supply lines they may need to be gently pulled up or twisted to the side to free them from the supply faucets. Allow the water in these hoses to drain into the bucket.

The counter weight is a plastic or lead weight attached to the looped wire mesh or plastic hose. It will be a simple device wrapped around the looped hose which attaches to the underside of the Grohe faucet sink sprayer and act to pull the retractable faucet head back into the faucet.

Have someone hold the Grohe faucet steady from above to keep from ruining the hole which the Grohe faucet and hoses are fed through.

Remember to replace the faucet screen in the faucet head before storing it away so that it doesn't get lost.
