Cover Blinds

Covering your vinyl vertical blinds with fabric can extend the life of your blinds and update the look of outdated or worn out blinds. This is also an ideal time to change the color scheme of the decor. Adding fabric to the blinds can customize the look of your vertical blinds. It is possible to complete this project yourself with a few materials and tools.

Instructions

1. Determine the width and length of the vertical blinds. Multiply the slat width by the number of vertical slats you need to cover. This is the amount of fabric you need to purchase for the width. Measure the length of each slat and multiply this number by the number of slats, which will be the length of fabric. You should purchase a few more inches than necessary to account for mistakes.

2. Trim the fabric into strips as wide and as long as the slats. You will need one piece of fabric for each vinyl slat you need to cover.

3. Place pressure-sensitive vertical backing material, which is like double-sided tape, to the backside of each slat. This can be found at most arts and crafts stores and will help the fabric stick to the blinds. Trim the backing material to the width and length of the blinds.

4. Pull the protective paper off the adhesive and push it into place on the side of the vertical slat that will face towards you. Remove the protective layer on the other side, which is where the fabric will go.

5. Align the fabric on the adhesive and push it into place with your fingers. Smooth out and creases with your fingers. Repeat this process with each slat.
