Ao smith gvr 50 100 pilot light shuts off after some time

AO SMITH GVR 50 100 pilot light shuts off after some time

Hi, I have a AO Smith water heater (Promax plus), 6 years old (Model No. GVR 50 100). The problem is that after returning from vacation when I now light up the furnace, it lights up and even warms up the water, but after some time it turns off and so does the pilot light. I hold the pilot light button and turn it back on and the pilot light remains on (does not go off) and then the furnace is also lit, but again after 5-10 mins later, it goes off and I have to repeat the process. I know its not the thermocouple problem, because the pilot light stays on for a while before I fire up the furnace. Any suggestions what might be wrong? Thank you for the help.
