Need to insulate garages cinderblock walls cold bedrooms above

Need to insulate garage's cinderblock walls (cold bedrooms above).

Bought an older home (45 yrs), and the attached garage's cinderblock walls are bare (not insulated, studed or sheetrocked); adds to the cold bedrooms above garage. What is the best/fastest way to insulate? I don't plan on hanging items so I don't need studs; should I use those full sheets of 4x8 2 Ridgid foam? I heard tales that pests like to borrow into those(?). Also, is their any added value to painting the cinderblock prior to insulating?. There is no water intrusion problems. Greatly appreciate any advise! -Lou The 2 blue or pink foam glued to the walls is fine, in our area. You might consider adding an aluminum termite barrier at the block/plate joint. If critters come up behind the foam, they will need to come out over the alum, and will then become visible. Do you have adequate insulation in the floor joists/garage ceiling? How about the door? You will lose more through the door than a couple of walls even if the door is closed. Coat the walls with Thoroseal first. Foam (1 1/2) and 2x2s covered with 5/8 drywall would be good. Dick Disregard my first statement, I misread, I read garage and thought basement. No type of foam insualtion is fire rated, and if used in a garage must be covered with drywall(5/8 firecode) or some fire resistant material. The ceiling extends out to cover part of the floor joists, but there is still about 2 exposed wood under ceiling. There are a few holes in the ceiling where I can feel some insulation but I can't tell how much -- I will remove a section to investigate. How much should there be? Should the paper side be down to the garage ceiling or up to the floor above? I have paper down to Garage ceiling(?). thx so much, Lou I have 2 brand new insulated doors. thx, Lou Generally the more insulation the better. Fiberglass insualation should not be crammed, if it is compressed it loses some of it's R value. I'm not an expert but would think that R-19 would be the minumum you want, there should be enough room for R-30. The vapor barrier always faces the heated space - paper at top.
