System Lo Batt on ADT-installed alarm

ADT installed the alarm system for the previous owners. We continued the service when we moved in, but then cancelled. They are being zero help with this issue because they're not monitoring. We are getting a System Lo Batt message on the keypad. It's not the sensors, it's the system itself - and every few hours (like last night at 2:30am) it beeps like crazy! I can't seem to find anywhere in the house where I would change batteries, and I am unsure what battery type is required. The alarm is a Safewatch Guard Pro - was installed in about 2003. Any advice would be much appreciated. Look for the metal box that contains the motherboard and battery. It's usually in places like the master bedroom closet. Thanks for your help MrRonFL. Much appreciated! When you mentioned it was a metal box, I remembered something in my furnace room. I found the box and it's got a huge battery in there. A Cavis CA1240, if that means anything. It says it can recharged - is that what I need to do? Or, do I just get a new one? The first question is how do I detach the battery? The leads look as though they are sealed onto the battery. If I rip the leads off, will the alarm start blaring or anything like that? Replace the battery. They are continuously trickle charged, but the second law of thermodynamics hasn't been repealed, and sooner or later the battery stops being able to take and hold a charge (5-7 years is the average lifespan). Those are just slip on connectors. If the battery is bad enough you will get corrosion and may need to crimp a new set of slip on connectors onto the battery wires. No the battery wires aren't alarmed. I'll head to Home Depot today (beeping happened twice last night!). Thanks again. hi i don't think Home Depot will have the battyou will need to go to radio shack 12-Volt/7Ah Lead-Acid Alarm Battery - RadioShack.com Thank you both for your help. Will get out to Radio Shack today. The battery is a CAVIS CA1240. I'll unhook it and bring it to the store. What happens if the battery is unhooked for a large period of time? Another way: Do I need the battery? Can I just unhook it and forget about it? Or will the beeping happen as it's doing now? Beer 4U2 the CA1240 is a 12 volt, 4 amp battery- the 12 volt 7 amp battery will be bigger, and will last longer during a power failure. So, be aware when at radio shack®* if you ask for the mentioned 12volt, 7 amp battery- its size is not going to be the same as the one you have. If you can fit the bigger one in the panel- do so.... its worth the few extra dollars for the larger cap of the 7 amp * not sure if i can mention radio shack® I have the same problem with my ADT System intermittently displaying the Battery Lo message. I checked the voltage on the 12v Battery and it's reading 13.6 Volts. I also checked the AC adapter to make sure it's plugged in good and it is. Do you think the battery still may be the suspect? The system is about 5 years old. Any suggestions? YES- replace the battery Originally Posted by bvioc ADT installed the alarm system for the previous owners. Reinstall making sure terminals are clean.. Have A Great Day!!
