Adt Medical Alert Systems

According to Consumer Reports, falls are the No. 1 cause of injury-related death among men and women over the age of 65. A medical alert system is an in-home security device that provides access to help should you fall or are otherwise injured and cannot reach a telephone. ADT Home Security offers a medical alert system where-- with the push of a button--you can speak to an ADT representative who will provide you with the assistance you need.

ADT's Companion Service®

ADT Home Security offers a medical alert system called Companion Service®. This personal emergency response system provides an open line of communication between customers and ADT representatives in case a fall or other emergency prevents access to a telephone or any other assistance.

How Does It Work?

According to www.adt.com, as an ADT Companion Service® customer, you will receive a waterproof wristband or pendant that has an emergency button. When in need, you push the button and you'll instantly be connected to an ADT representative via a two-way intercom. ADT can assess the situation and call for an ambulance, or contact a neighbor or relative for you.

The alert system has a 300-foot range and will function even if you are outdoors, and since the help button is waterproof, it can be worn in the shower or bath. The system also has the ability to alert you if the temperature in your home becomes unsafe, and a test light reminds you every 30 days to test the unit. The system does not need regular servicing as it will alert ADT if there is a malfunction.

Power Outages

If the power in your home goes out, the ADT personal emergency response system will operate on a backup battery for a period of 12 to 20 hours. Before the battery runs out, the system will alert ADT that the power source will soon be down; ADT will then contact you to let you know the system will shut down soon, and offer assistance to help solve the problem.

Safety Tips and Buyer's Guide

ADT offers Companion Service® customers a checklist of home safety tips and a list of questions to ask before buying any medical alert system. Safety tips such as keeping medications clearly marked and near dosage schedules, arranging kitchen cabinets so items are easy to reach, ensuring smoke detectors have fresh batteries and keeping a flashlight handy are all intended to help you avoid falls and other emergencies. In the ADT buyer's guide, the company recommends you ask questions before you buy any medical alert system such as: Does the system offer long-range capability? Is it easy to use? Does it offer a 24-hour connection? ADT's safety tips and buyer's guide are available both from company representatives and on their website at www.adt.com.
