Use Acupressure Therapy For Cats

Acupressure can help your cat live longer and have more energy. This type of massage has been used for over 4,000 years in Chinese medicine, on both people and animals. For older cats, acupressure can relieve some of the pain they experience as they age. If you don't want to perform this type of massage on your cat, there are professionals who can do so.

Instructions

Use Acupressure Therapy for Cats

1. Before starting an acupressure session, pet your cat until she feels comfortable. She may be hesitant at first and may flee from a massage, but if you are patient, she may come to enjoy these sessions.

2. Use a feline pressure-point chart to determine which points on your cat's body you want to massage. Pressure points can be massaged to help other parts of the body. For example, if your cat has arthritis, massaging his ears can help relieve pain.

3. Choose a pressure point. Use your thumb and forefinger to massage the area. Your cat will should begin to relax. Move to another pressure point after two or three minutes.

4. Adjust the amount of pressure you use on each point, as some may be more sensitive than others. After a few sessions, you should be able to gauge the right amount of pressure by how your cat reacts.

5. Give acupressure massages two or three times per week. For older cats or cats with medical problems, acupressure can in some cases help relieve pain and help their bodies heal.
