Medical Information On A Usb Card

Emergency care requires quick action.

A variety of sources offer medical information on a USB card. Stemming from the concept of the medic alert bracelet, a USB medical information card card provides emergency medical information when it is most needed. CVS Pharmacies, Kaiser Permanente and MedicAlert Foundation all offer USB cards that deliver medical information in emergency situations.

Information Format

The USB medical information card stores information in PDF, txt and doc formats that can be read by any computer. The emergency medical care provider only has to plug the card into the USB port of any computer to pull up detailed health information.

Information Content

The USB medical information cards do not carry a complete medical history. Instead they focus on information relevant in an emergency such as allergies, current prescriptions, recent or chronic medical issues, immunization records, past hospitalizations and immunization records and emergency contacts.

Data Input

The common goal of the different devices is to provide relevant information to guide care providers in that "Golden Hour" just after a traumatic incident when accurate care is most valuable. The methods of getting the information onto the card vary. Some companies offer online forms that you fill out yourself. Kaiser Permanente downloads medical data while the patient is visiting a facility. In either case, the potentially life saving information is there when it is needed most.
