Medicaid provides government funding for health care for children, pregnant women, the elderly, blind and disabled. Some people in New Jersey qualify for a Medicaid personal care assistant (PCA) to help them with daily tasks like bathing and dressing. To receive funding for this service, you must meet certain criteria set forth by the state. The Division of Disability Services runs this program and the screening process to determine who qualifies for a PCA.
Medicaid Plan
To qualify for a PCA, you must be part of Medicaid plans A or G in the New Jersey Family Care program.
Necessity
A doctor must deem this sort of assistance necessary. You do not, however, need to be permanently disabled to receive a PCA. You must also provide documentation like medical records or other information to demonstrate necessity.
Living Arrangement
You cannot apply for a Medicaid-funded PCA if you live in a facility that offers this sort of care as part of their services, such as a nursing home, boarding home or assisted living facility.
