Improve Spleen Function

The spleen controls the amount of blood in the body and is part of the lymphatic system. This is the system responsible for balancing fluids in the body and fighting infection. The spleen destroys old, damaged cells and contains white blood cells. It sits above the stomach on the left side under the rib cage. It is approximately the size of a fist and--unless it is swollen due to disease--it usually cannot be felt.

Instructions

Steps

1. Take herbs such as goldenseal, Oregon grape root and barberry to enhance the blood flow through the spleen. Berberine is reported to enhance immunity and astragalus and ligustrum to improve spleen function. Take a spleen support supplement such as the one recommended below in the References section but be sure to check with a doctor before taking any supplements or herbs and it may be wise to speak to a herbal practitioner to choose the best herbs for you.

2. Eat raw foods to give your spleen a break. Raw foods assist digestion which means the spleen does does not have to work as hard and is able to function without exertion.

3. Get a massage. Stroking up and down the arms will assist in cleansing the lymphatic system and improving lymphatic drainage and spleen function. Use five drops of pure lemon essential oil mixed in 1 tablespoon of a base oil such as almond, jojoba, grape seed or olive oil.

4. Exercise daily to improve the muscle function that assists lymphatic drainage and blood flow through the spleen. Yoga is particularly good for lymphatic drainage, cleansing and improving spleen function.

5. Drink eight to 12 cups of water a day and include a squeeze of lemon juice or a slice of lemon in the water whenever possible. This will help you cleanse all the organs including the spleen.
