Properties Of Stones & Crystals

Crystals and gemstones have unique properties that affect energies around us.

Crystals and gemstones have the ability to store and change various forms of energy due to their highly organized internal structure. The molecules of crystal or stone form a latticework that surrounds millions of tiny, empty spaces. These spaces within the solid matter of a crystal or stone can be compressed or expanded by vibrations. This forms the basis for the electrical and physical use of crystals to manipulate energy.

Physical Properties of Crystals and Technological Uses

Quartz crystal consists of molecules of silicon dioxide. The molecules of silicon and oxygen are arranged in a complex geometric pattern that consists largely of empty space, caged by the latticework of crystal. The open spaces surrounded by the molecules of crystal can be expanded and compressed by certain stimuli. In other words, the crystal can be made to vibrate. Different frequencies of vibratory energy can be stored in crystals The highly order structure of the crystal is reliable and consistent in its storage and reproduction of sound, light and electrical frequencies, making the crystals ideal for controlling frequencies in radios, televisions, computers and other devices.

Life Force and Thought Energies

Both Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla claimed that we are surrounded by "a sea of energy," which modern physicists describe as "zero point energy"--energy that exists prior to its materialization in form. This energy has been variously described by earlier scientists as orgone, odic force and animal magnetism. In traditional ancient cultures this energy has been described as life force, which the Hindu tradition calls "prana" and the Chinese tradition calls "chi." While many people are skeptical of the principles of healing with prana or chi, such as in acupuncture or other esoteric treatments, Eastern scientists have documented and recorded the reality of these energies and their ability to affect the physical body. Similar to thermal, sound or electrical energy, this life force energy can also be stored, changed or amplified by the use of crystals.

Piezoelectric Properties of Crystal

Tap a quartz crystal with a mallet and you will see a tiny flash of light. This demonstrates the crystal's ability to transform mechanical pressure into another form of energy, light. We can now see that crystals have the power to store, focus, transmit, and amplify energies. Any energy stored within a crystal will be released in various forms such as light, heat or sound if the crystal is cracked or shattered.

The Varying Properties of Gemstones

Gemstones and semiprecious stones are forms of crystal with different, less neutral properties. Like quartz crystal, each stone has a highly ordered molecular shape that stores and transforms energy by way of vibration. Due to cutting or polishing, some stones may not have a readily observable crystal shape, but internally they have the same rigidly organized geometric structure. Different stones and crystals have different abilities for storing, communicating or transforming energies. Some practitioners who work with crystals believe that the "chi" force within a crystal is one that you can communicate with by meditation or focused thought. These practitioners believe that meditation on the "inner spirit" or "deva" of the stone will reveal its properties. Thinking more scientifically, a practitioner who meditates with stones will notice that different stones accept or change energy more readily or differently than other stones, just as an electronics expert might observe that different stones conduct and change electricity with varying properties.
