Uses For Lemongrass Tincture







If you want to investigate herbal remedies for treatment of various physical ailments, you might find lemongrass tincture can relieve a variety of conditions. In the wild, lemongrass grows as a tall aromatic, flavorful grass. When converted into a tincture, you can apply it topically, consume it orally or use it in aromatherapy.


Stomach Disorders


Add about a 1/2 tsp. of lemongrass tincture to a teaspoon of liquid or a sugar cube to sooth stomach problems. You can take this remedy two or three times daily. Lemongrass teas and tinctures can sooth stomachaches, gas, diarrhea, bowel spasms, fever, stomach flus and vomiting. Dean Coleman, Herbal Luxuries, says that lemongrass, when taken internally, has been recommended for stomachaches, diarrhea, gas, bowel spasms, vomiting, fever, flu, headaches and other types of pain.


External Treatment


Put a few drops of lemongrass tincture in 1 tbsp. of a carrier oil such as sunflower, olive or coconut oil -- apply it externally to treat acne, athlete's foot, sciatica, sprains, lower back pain, tendinitis and neuralgia. Add eight to 10 drops of the lemongrass tincture to 1 tbsp. of carrier oil and rub it into the affected area. Coleman says the herb, or its essential oil, may be applied externally to help treat acne, athlete's foot, lower back pain, sciatica, sprains, tendinitis, neuralgia, and rheumatism.


Circulatory Disorders


Rub a carrier oil that has lemongrass tincture added on the skin of areas affected with circulatory disorders including arthritis and rheumatism. Some natural healers believe that the lemongrass tincture can improve blood flow. Add eight to 10 drops of lemongrass tincture to 1 tbsp. of a carrier oil and apply it to the affected area. To treat circulatory disorders, it is recommended to rub a few drops of lemongrass oil on the skin of affected area, according to Coleman, because it's believed to work by improving blood flow. Tommy's Teas says the lemongrass is a good cleanser that helps detoxify the liver, pancreas, kidney, bladder and the digestive tract. It cuts down uric acid, cholesterol, excess fats and other toxins in the body while stimulating digestion, blood circulation, and lactation. Lemongrass also alleviates indigestion and gastroenteritis.


Hair


Mix a few drops of lemongrass tincture with 1 tbsp. of regular shampoo to treat greasy hair. Coleman says lemongrass is considered an antiseptic and astringent, essential oil of lemongrass is also used by some people to cleanse oily skin and help close pores. Some herbalists recommend mixing a few drops of lemongrass with a normal portion of mild shampoo to combat greasy hair.








Aromatherapy


Use lemongrass tincture in aromatherapy sessions to promote relaxation and a calm disposition.
