Causes Of Neck Hip And Shin Pain

There are several causes of neck, hip, and shin pain; some are medical conditions and others are the result of an injury. A doctor must be consulted for proper diagnosis and treatment, but at home, remedies do exist for certain minor ailments. The most common cause is arthritis. Depending on the symptoms and the affected area, the remedies can be very cost effective and simple to perform.

Common Neck Injuries/Conditions

Common causes of neck pain are stress, overexertion, poor posture and a pinched nerve. A fall, car accident or other injuries can result in damaged spinal discs or cervical vertebrae. Degenerative joint disease or a herniated disc can be sources of pain.

Common Hip Injuries/Conditions

Common hip injuries are hip labral tears, hip bursitis, stress fractures, hip breaks resulting from a fall or iliotibial band syndrome. Common conditions, possibly genetic, that result in hip pain are acetabular dysplasia, cartilage degeneration or hip osteonecrosis.

Common Shin Injuries/Conditions

Common causes of shin/leg pain are muscle cramps, dehydration, arthritis, vitamin deficiencies, poor circulation, blood clots, arthritis, deep vein thrombosis, peripheral neuropathy, growing pains or even pregnancy.

Medical Treatment

Surgery may be necessary to correct some of the injuries and ailments. Pain medication may be administered either over the counter or by prescription. Physical therapy may be required to completely alleviate pain by strengthening the area.

At-Home Remedies

Exercise is the most recommended way to help work out the "kinks" in relation to muscle or joint pain. A cold or hot compress may help to constrict or dilate certain blood vessels, which can reduce swelling or provide more oxygen to the area to help speed the healing process.
