Home Remedies For An Oral Yeast Infection

An oral yeast infection, also called thrush, is caused by a fungus that builds up inside the mouth. The fungus will cause white sores that can bleed and be very painful. Thrush is more common in babies and toddlers who consume a lot of sugar, mostly through their formula. There are some diseases that put you at higher risk for thrush, such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes and vaginal yeast infections. If this condition is left untreated, it can spread down the back of the throat, making it difficult to swallow.

Yogurt

Yogurt is one of the most common home remedies for treatment of yeast infections, including thrush. For a baby with thrush, dip your finger in the yogurt and the allow the baby to suck on your finger. You can also dip a cotton swab in yogurt and rub on the inside of the mouth, particularly on the lesions. Do this for several times a day for several days. Wash your hands every time you re-apply so that you are not infecting the yogurt with thrush. For an adult with thrush, eat yogurt several times per day.

Plantain Seed

Plantain seed is an herb that can be taken as a laxative. The seed is usually taken with water which swells inside the stomach. For thrush, soak the seeds overnight so that they swell. This will form a gel-like substance. Apply a small amount of the gel directly onto the sores in the mouth. If you do this several times a day, the sores will disappear within three days. It is recommended you continue using the product for a week after healing, so that the infection does not reappear.

Rose Honey

Rose honey works quickly as a home remedy for thrush. This can be found in the home remedy section at your local Wal-mart, but you can also make rose honey if you can not locate it in stores. Pick a quart jar full of rose petals and lightly pack it. You do not want the petals to be too tight so that the honey will not flow between them. Take a jar of honey and pour over the petals. Close the jar tightly with a lid. For the next few days, turn the jar over every time you pass by so that it will continuously mix the juice from the petals with the honey. Whenever you see an appearance of thrush on the inside of the mouth, use a cotton swab to gently rub the honey on it. The mixture will work very quickly and the thrush will usually be gone within a few days.
