Pinworms are common in children.

According to the Mayo Clinic, pinworms are the most common type of intestinal worm infections in the United States. Pinworms are thin, white and approximately 1/4 inch in size and mainly infect school-age children. They cause itching in the anal area and may produce weight loss and loss of appetite. Most prescription medications for pinworm are pricey, making home remedies worth before dishing out a lot of money on expensive commercial products.

Garlic

Garlic has powers to remove pinworm from the intestines, according to Natural-Home Remedies. Include garlic in your daily diet to help force the pinworms out of your system. Put a mixture of garlic paste and Vaseline around the outside of your anal area. This paste can kill the eggs and give relief from itching.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Put 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract in an 8 oz. glass of water. Drink this mixture three times daily for at least seven days. This will help rid the intestine of pinworms.

Coconut

According to the Ayushveda website, coconut is one of the most effective ways to get rid of pinworms. Take a spoonful of fresh coconut each morning with breakfast. Three hours later take a spoonful of castor oil. Repeat this daily until the pinworms are gone.

Carrots

Eat a small cup of shredded carrots each morning and before bed to help push the pinworms out of the intestines. If your child has trouble eating the carrots, mix them with a tablespoon of honey.

Pumpkin Seeds

Use raw pumpkin seeds and crush the seeds in a bowl. Mix the pumpkin seeds with about 2 cups of water and put on the stove on low heat for two hours. Do not let the mix boil. After two hours, pull the mix off the stove and allow cooling. Remove any layers of oil and filter the mix.
