Reduce Itching From Hives

Hives are a common allergic reaction that causes itchy skin. They occur in up to 20 percent of people of all ages at one time or another. Hives occur on any skin type and anywhere on the body, with the exception of the palms or soles of your feet. An attack of hives is not normally life threatening, but it is often very uncomfortable and difficult to deal with.


Instructions


1. Take a prescribed or over-the-counter antihistamines to reduce the itching of your hives.


2. Cover the hives completely with a generous amount of calamine lotion, then allow it to dry. Leave the lotion on for several hours or overnight to reduce itching, swelling and pain related to your hive outbreak.








3. Use topical therapies such as lotions and creams to reduce or eliminate the itching. There are also medicated powders available.


4. Apply cool compresses to the hive welts, or take a cool shower to alleviate the pain and itching relative to the hives.


5. Keep the infected area of your skin cool to reduce the itching.
