Grow Gymnema Sylvestre

Gymnema sylvestre is an herb that is cultivated in India. It has recently become popular since the discovery of benefits it has for individuals with diabetes. Chewing the leaves can help stimulate the growth of insulin-producing cells. With this significant discovery, many people have started to grow their own Gymnema sylvestre plant.

Instructions

1. Dump potting soil into your medium-size container, leaving it loose and fluffy for the roots to establish.

2. Plant your seedling into the pot and water to keep the soil moist. The soil should pack when pressed, not stick to your fingers.

3. Mix your nutrients in with water, and fertilize once a week. Use a water-soluble fertilizer that is concentrated for use in a watering can. Water your herb once every morning, keeping the pot near sunlight as often as possible.

4. Prune back any wilted, broken or browning stems. Cut at the base of the stem, where it meets another larger, more primary branch--usually in a Y-crossing.

5. Pick off the leaves for herbal uses once they are 1 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches long. They should also be dark green.
