1. Ensure that you are eating a well-balanced diet after having your child. Don't begin a weight-loss program until about three months after having a child. This will give your menstrual cycle time to normalize. A


2. Start with an exercise regime, but do not overexert yourself. If you were not exercising during your pregnancy, then it is especially important to start slowly. Start by walking around your neighborhood, and you can even take your newborn with you. This will prime your body for a more rigorous routine once your body has fully healed.


3. Eat several healthy, but small, meals every day. This will keep your metabolism primed and your energy up. This is especially important if you are breastfeeding.


4. Fatty and highly processed foods should be avoided. Eating whole grains, low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables will help you lose weight.


5. Do not get discouraged if other mothers seem to lose their baby weight quicker.
