Instructions For 'Zircon' Stud Finders

Attempting to hang a heavy item such as a plasma-TV bracket on a wall can be a frustrating experience if you don't know where the studs are. Rather than using a tape measure or gently tapping the wall with a hammer to locate studs, a faster and more convenient solution is to use a Zircon stud finder. Many do-it-yourselfers find a stud finder to be an invaluable tool.

Instructions

1. Remove the battery door on the back of the stud finder and install a 9-volt battery if one is not already installed. Close the battery door on the stud finder.

2. Position the stud finder on the wall with the LED lights facing the operator. Hold down the on-off switch located at the side of the stud finder to turn the device on.

3. Slide the Zircon stud finder slowly along the wall in a horizontal direction to the right while still holding the on-off switch in the "On" position. The lower LED indicators will brighten as they sense areas of increased density. When the uppermost LED indicator lights up, stop moving the stud finder and mark that spot with a pencil.

4. Pick a spot approximately 4 inches to the right of the previously marked spot and position the stud finder on the wall with the LED lights facing the operator. Hold the on-off switch in the "On" position and slowly move the stud finder to the left until the uppermost LED indicator lights up again and mark that spot. The area between those two spots indicates where the stud is located.
