How Does Lyrica Affect The Brain

Why Lyrica is prescribed

Lyrica is often prescribed to control epileptic seizures that affect the brain. Epilepsy affects you by overstimulating your nervous system and overwhelming your brain with messages and signals. Lyrica is used to reduce the number of seizures, not prevent them entirely.

Power in a pill

Taken orally (with or without food), Lyrica blocks the excess signals sent by overstimulated nerves, decreasing the number of seizures. Lyrica can also be prescribed for fibromyalgia, and nerve pain associated with shingles as well as that associated with diabetes.

Know the side effects

Make sure you and your doctor discuss all your options. While Lyrica has been proven to be effective, there are some rather strong side effects that include swelling in the extremities, dry mouth, drowsiness, weight gain, dizziness, blurry vision and difficulty in concentrating. These symptoms vary from person to person, and can also be influenced by lifestyle choices.
