Creams Used To Treat Shingles

Shingles (Herpes zoster) is a skin condition of rashes or blisters in one area of the body caused by the same virus as chicken pox. Mild-to-intense pain and itching occur in the affected area. One treatment for shingles is the use of a topical cream. A variety of creams is available to help in the shingles healing process, but sometimes they are not marketed directly to shingles sufferers.

Capsaicin cream

This cream's key ingredient causes the heat in chili peppers and it stops pain when applied to skin. It is available in .25 and .75 percent strengths.

Calamine

Any cream medication containing calamine soothes sores by working as an antiseptic and an astringent. Brands include Caladryl and Obtundia.

Ten-percent trolamine salicylate

Typically used for muscle pain, a treatment containing 10-percent trolamine salicylate can sometimes reduce swelling and inflammation around the shingles. One example of this treatment is Aspercreme.

Silver sulfadiazine

Silver sulfadiazine typically treats first --- and --- second degree burns. It prevents bacteria from spreading over an affected area, such as a shingles outbreak. Brands containing silver sulfadiazine include Silvadene and Flamazine.

Alternative medicine: Iren's Secret Shingles Cream (100% natural)

Iren's Secret Shingles Cream (100% natural) claims to heal shingles and increase the healing rate in all skin types without adverse side effects.
