Parkinson's Disease is a movement disorder. It is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system that can affect motor skills, speech and physical movement. Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that is usually practiced specifically to increase health. Tai chi has favorable effects on balance and flexibility and is usually recommended for Parkinson's patients. Parkinson's sufferers are prone to falls that can cause serious injury but tai chi can restore balance, decreasing problems arising from the disease.
St. John's Wort
Take 300 milligrams of St. John's wort three times per day for use as a natural antidepressant. Individuals will Parkinson's have a deficiency of the brain chemical dopamine. Dopamine helps to fight depression because it contributes to the positive feelings in the brain. Taking St John's will stabilize those levels in the brain and can help you remain positive throughout the course of the disease.
Acupuncture
Talk to your physician about acupuncture as an alternative treatment. Acupuncture is a form of deep brain stimulation that is done via needles penetrating the skin at select pressure points. There are certain areas in the brain that are not functioning as they should with Parkinson's and acupuncture will stimulate those areas to get them functioning to a small degree. Acupuncture will help with body posture, tremor and rigidity from Parkinson's. Have acupuncture done weekly to provide the best results.
