If you have allergies to commercial body and dusting powders -- or you want a powder with all natural ingredients -- you can learn to make your own powders. Making dusting powder allows you to use the scents that you like, add additions for personal skin needs and create the powders without using talc, a substance which sometimes contains asbestos.
Instructions
Vanilla Dusting Powder
1. Combine one cup of cornstarch, 1/2 cup of tapioca starch, 30 cc of pure vanillin powder and 1/2 cup baking soda to begin making Vanilla Dusting Powder, a natural powder that leaves a pleasant vanilla fragrance on your skin for a long-lasting effect.
2. Add eight drops of vanilla essential oil to a cotton pad and insert the pad into the container with the powders for 24 hours, shaking or stirring periodically.
3. Remove the pad after 24 hours. Shake the powder again before using.
Natural Lavender Body Powder
4. Combine 1/2 cup of arrowroot, 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1/2 cup white clay, 1/4 cup powdered lavender buds and 1/4 cup powdered rose petals to prepare the base for a Natural Lavender Body Powder Recipe.
5. Remove 5 tbsp. of the mixed powders and drip 100 drops of lavender essential oil, or geranium essential oil, into the powder.
6. Remix the powder into the large container with the rest of the powder.
7. Store in a cool, dark dry place for two days before using.
Simple Unscented Dusting Powder
8. Create a simple non-scented dusting powder for adults and children by combining 3 oz. of baking soda with 8 oz. of corn starch.
9. Mix in 4 oz. of rice flour. You can whisk the mixture if you have a little whisk. This recipe makes an unscented powder that is smooth and soothing.
10. Insert some sprigs of dried lavender, gardenia, ginger, lily or any other scented flower or herb if you wish to scent your powder. The powder will absorb the scent.
11. Take out the flower or herb sprigs before you empty the powder into containers.
