Eating healthy can be difficult during the workday. Many people work for a company that has a staff cafeteria but these cafeterias don't always offer the most healthy meals. Here is how you can make healthy choices in a staff cafeteria.
Instructions
1. If your staff cafeteria has a meal schedule available, examine what meals will be available on which days of the week. This will help you to better plan meals throughout the week as well as giving you the opportunity to bring in a more healthy food choice if the meal being served by your staff cafeteria is not something you would like to eat.
2. Stick with fresh fruits and vegetables. These are always a healthy choice and practically every staff cafeteria will be stocked with fruits and vegetables every day.
3. Inquire about the dressings available for salads. A staff cafeteria may only carry basic dressings that aren't necessarily healthy. If that is the case with your staff cafeteria, considering bringing your own salad dressing to work. You could also put oil and vinegar on your salad.
4. Don't be afraid to choose a pre-made sandwich from your staff cafeteria. Many of these will have a packet of dressing on the side instead of directly on the sandwich. Also, if you choose a sandwich that has cheese on it, the cheese should be simple to remove. This will make your sandwich an even healthier choice.
5. Choose seafood over beef when possible. Almost any seafood dish will be healthy than a beef dish served by your staff cafeteria, as most staff cafeterias will not offer 97 percent lean beef.
6. Be sure to not eat too much pasta in your staff cafeteria. Many staff cafeterias have pasta every day since it is both cheap and easy to make. However, eating pasta products multiple times during the week is not healthy for anybody.
7. Remember portion control while eating in the staff cafeteria. Since the food is free, you'll probably be tempted to eat more than you should on some days. Portion control is one of the most important parts of a healthy diet so try not to eat more than your fill during your break at work.
