History
EMS began approximately 40 years ago according to the Roseland First Aid Squad. The concept of the ambulance has existed since ancient times, with the Greeks and Romans using chariots as ambulances.
Types of Ambulances
According to the Roseland First Aid Squad, there are currently three different types of ambulances. The Type I ambulance has a small truck body and a modular compartment. The Type II ambulance has a van body with a raised roof. The Type III ambulance has a modular compartment with a van chassis.

Each year, the National EMS Memorial is held to remember those that lost their lives as an EMS in the line of duty, according to the Roseland First Aid Squad.
