Ovarian Cancer Signs & Tests

Ovarian cancer is a serious and sometimes deadly type of cancer. Early diagnosis is essential to effective treatment. Ovarian cancer is treated by either surgical removal of cancerous growths, chemotherapy or a combination of both. Ovarian cancer has symptoms which may often be mistaken for other disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome or even depression.


Digestive Problems


The digestive problems experienced by women with ovarian cancer will be persistent and continually worsening over time. Women with ovarian cancer may feel constant pressure in the abdomen and perpetual abdominal bloating. In addition, these women may experience constipation, nausea and excessive gas.


Bladder Problems


Women with ovarian cancer may feel the need to urinate frequently and urgently.








Pelvic Problems


Pelvic problems may include an uncomfortable feeling and pain. Pain may be felt during intercourse.


Fatigue








Women with ovarian cancer may feel constantly fatigued.


Back Pain


Ovarian cancer may cause pain in the lower back area.


Diagnostic Tests


Doctors may do a thorough pelvic exam to look for any abnormal growths. Also, an ultrasound may be used to look for abnormalities. In addition, a blood test known as the CA 125 blood test may be used to look for high levels of the CA 125 protein that is often found in women with ovarian cancer.
