Migraine Symptoms

A migraine is a type of headache that can be incapacitating and persist for several days. A propensity for migraines is genetically predisposed and a variety of factors, ranging from stress to weather to food can trigger episodes. There is currently no cure for migraines, however there are several prescription medications that significantly reduce the pain and frequency of episodes.

Sharp, Persistent Pain

The characteristic symptom of a migraine headache is sharp and unrelenting pain that may be located on one or both sides of the head. This pain is also distinguished by an accompanying pulsating sensation.

Sensitivity to Stimuli

A sudden onset of extreme sensitivity to noise, light and taste is another common symptom of a migraine.

Nausea

An initial symptom of a migraine headache is an abrupt sensation of nausea which may result in vomiting.

Food Cravings

Many individuals who are in the early stages of a migraine may begin to abnormally crave sweet food or carbohydrates.

Abrupt Fatigue

Sudden fatigue is also a typical symptom of a migraine and tends to occur as the pain begins.
