Pick The Right Contact Lens Color

Contact lenses can change, enhance or brighten your eyes.

Contact lenses not only improve your vision, they can also become an accessory or element of your personal style. Contact lenses are available in a wide range of colors and options. Lenses can completely change your eye color, enhance your natural eye color or brighten your eyes with sparkle and shimmer. You can choose from natural colors such as blue and brown or select rare, exotic shades such as violet or topaz.

Instructions

1. Decide if your skin, eye and natural hair color are warm or cool based. This is an important step in determining a lens color that will flatter your coloring. All skin has a blue or yellow base. Examine your skin, ask a friend or visit a cosmetics counter to determine your skin tone.

2. Visit your eye-care professional for an eye exam. Never purchase contact lenses from anyone other than your optician or eye-care professional. Even if you don't require vision correction, you will need a prescription to wear contact lenses.

3. Discuss the available contact-lens options and browse examples of each.

4. Match an opaque, colored lens to your skin tone. For warm-toned complexions, select a lens with honey, chestnut, khaki or copper tones. For cool-toned complexions, select a lens that is jade, turquoise, violet, gray or blue.

5. Select a lens color based on your current hair color. If you have dyed hair, try matching a colored lens to your current shade. Black hair looks stunning with ice-blue or violet lenses while powder blue or emerald green suit platinum blond hair.

6. Evaluate your personal style to determine the colors you commonly wear. If you favor earth tones, for example, select a lens that pairs well with these colors such as sea green, hazel or amber.

7. Choose a lens that enhances or brightens your natural eye color rather than changing it entirely. You may decide that your natural eye color is most attractive with your coloring, so add drama and intensity to your eyes with lenses. Enhancement lenses enrich your natural tones without changing the color dramatically while brightening tints add subtle sparkle and outlining details to intensify your look.

8. Ask your eye-care professional for a second opinion. These experts are skilled in matching lenses to faces, so request their guidance.

9. Request a trial period with your lenses. Most eye-care professionals will allow you to try out your lenses for a short period of time to determine whether they are right for you or not.
