1. Control portions to cut the calories. The majority of the adult entrees at Macaroni Grill are 1,000 calories or more, but if you choose to order a kids meal, you can cut the fat and calories in half. The child's fettuccine Alfredo is only 580 calories, and the grilled chicken and broccoli comes in at only 390 calories. If you're feeling like spaghetti and meatballs, the kid's portion is only 550 calories compared to the adult entree, which is 1430 calories.


2. Steer clear of fatty dishes. If you're looking to cut your fat intake, go with the chicken or fish whenever possible. The Pollo Magro "Skinny chicken" is only 330 calories and 5 grams of fat. The simple salmon is only 590 calories, but features 40 grams of fat. Salads are also a good choice, but ask for dressing on the side and use it sparingly. A chicken Caesar salad with no dressing is 462 calories with 20 grams of fat. If you add the dressing, the calories double to 920 and the fat increases to 69 grams per serving.


3. Skip the bread and olive oil. This alone will save you around 500 calories.


4. Choose healthy sides. A side of asparagus is only 30 calories and 1 gram of fat, whereas a side of garlic mashed potatoes is 280 calories with 14 grams of fat.








5. Think before you drink. Alcohol will pack on the calories, with little benefit to you. Instead, order water and savor the flavor of your dish.
