CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency procedure that combines external cardiac massage with artificial respiration. CPR certification is a requirement for many professional positions, including teachers and coaches, but should be learned by everyone. With the advancement of e-learning (courses provided on the Internet) you no longer have to give up your entire Saturday to get, or renew, your CPR certification. Your ability to learn save a life is as close as your computer.
Instructions
1. Determine the online course that fits your needs. There are many online course providers. The American Red Cross offers a blended online course, in which the instructional portion is provided online and then a certified instructor will come to your site to provide two hours of hands-on skill instruction. Other online sources offer nationally accepted CPR recertification courses that are completely online; see the Resources section for an example.
2. Choose the course that includes the certifications you need. Courses available include adult CPR, adult/infant CPR or healthcare provider.
3. Register for your desired course by providing the required information, including name, address, and email. Be sure that the website you are utilizing offers security measures to protect the privacy of your information.
4. Read the information in the course materials that are provided electronically. Make sure you have software required for reading PDFs installed on your computer.
5. Watch related videos for the course. Make sure you have appropriate plug-ins installed on your computer.
6. Print the illustrated course for future reference. Most courses includes an electronic version of the study materials.
7. Take the online exam. Most online courses allow you to take it again free of charge if you do not pass your first time.
8. Print as many copies of your wall certificate and/or wallet-sized certificates as you need. If you do not have a color printer or if you wish to obtain more professional-looking documents, you may order them to be sent to you.
