Alcohol Rehab Programs

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, around 18 million people in the United States abuse alcohol. Fortunately, programs exist to recover from alcoholism and potentially help others do the same. The United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration maintains programs which help individuals overcome their struggle with alcohol abuse. Non-government institutions also provide both in-patient and out-patient treatments.

Recovery Community Services Program

The Recovery Community Service Program facilitates peer-to-peer recovery services for alcohol-dependent individuals to help overcome their condition and gain wellness. It organizes and forms support groups in communities which have their own program design based on factors such as the number of patients and their demographics.

The official website of the Recovery Community Services Program states that the services it provides include peer-led recovery meetings, recovery mentoring and peer case management. Aside from help in overcoming alcohol dependence and maintaining a sober disposition, the peer-to-peer recovery services include assistance in educational, employment and housing opportunities. This provides a holistic approach to dealing with alcoholism, going beyond treatment and extending help even after recovery.

Each of these stages is aimed at addressing the different aspects of alcoholism, including physical, psychological and social factors.

According to its official website, the institute focuses on in-patient treatments which admit alcohol-dependent individuals in the facility for a certain number of days. The program includes group and individual therapies, and other activities such as exercise, quiet times and life skills classes.

The St. Jude Retreats

The St. Jude Retreats provides an alternative treatment to alcoholism through an in-patient program which lasts for six weeks. Called the Jude Thaddeus Program, it gives patients three options for treatments which can be done in three different retreat houses.

According to the official website of the institute, all locations are chosen based on research that suggests where a person stays during the rehabilitation period affects the success of the program.

The program includes involvement in a health club, a daily continental breakfast and one-hour activities that are scattered throughout the day. Some classes are comprised of one to three students, allowing the institute to give the necessary amount of attention to each and every patient in their facilities.
