Make Sure A Baby'S Teeth Are Straight

Baby teeth can become crowded and crooked if not attended to properly.

Baby teeth play an essential role in a baby's early development. A baby learns to eat and speak using this first set of teeth. If the teeth in a baby's mouth are not straight, their chewing habits and speech patterns may be affected over time. Removing a baby tooth to alleviate crowding may not be the best option, as baby teeth often guide the path for adult teeth to emerge from the gum. You should consult a dentist, if you are concerned about the health of your baby's mouth.

Instructions

1. Determine if the teeth are located horizontally along the gum line. If a baby's teeth are slightly vertical and do not sit perfectly horizontal along the gum line, they are not straight.

2. Visit a dentist. Ask the dentist to evaluate the baby's teeth and determine if they are straight. A dentist may take x-rays of the baby's mouth, to check the teeth below the gum line.

3. Straighten the teeth or leave them alone. The dentist may recommend pulling a baby tooth to alleviate crowding, or he may suggest that you leave the teeth alone and wait until they fall out. It is important to consult a dentist before trying to solve the problem on your own.
