Suntheanine Information

Suntheanine is a type of supplement derived from the amino acid L-theanine, which is often found in tea. Suntheanine is commonly used to aid in relaxation. However, ongoing issues with anxiety should be properly addressed with a medical professional.

Purported Benefits

According to Total Health Magazine, drinking suntheanine in green tea will promote relaxation without causing drowsiness like some traditional medications. The magazine reports that suntheanine helps to relieve anxiety and stress, alleviate PMS symptoms and allow for better concentration and sounder sleep.

Dosage

Total Health Magazine recommends a dosage of between 50 and 200 mg but explains that there is no limit on the number of servings. Total Health also claims that the effects of suntheanine can be felt within thirty minutes of consumption and can last for six hours.

Considerations

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given suntheanine its Letter of No Objection in regard to safety. However, this does not mean that suntheanine is endorsed by the FDA as an effective form of medical treatment. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the health benefits of green tea extracts have not yet been scientifically proven. Consult your doctor before using this or any other supplement.
