Create A Monthly Food Chart

A calendar can help keep your monthly food consumption and budget on track.

There are several reasons you might be compelled to create a monthly food chart. For instance, perhaps you are participating in a diet program and want to keep your proportions on track. Another situation that might require a monthly food chart is for those who are trying to stick to a budget. For example, you could create a food chart that makes not of what you ate and how much you spent in the process. Whatever your reason for creating a chart, creating one is simple with ordinary household materials.

Instructions

1. Hang a calendar on the wall in a place you will see on a daily basis. Make sure you choose a calendar that has large enough spaces for each day, so you have plenty of room to write or hang stickers. Many calendars will have a section on the bottom to write notes, which would be very helpful for monthly planning. On each day of the month, make note of the information that you want to chart.

2. Have a list of goals in mind for each month. Before charting, identify why you need to document your food in this fashion. If the intention is to lose weight, set goals for yourself and note how you plan to measure these goals. For example, if you want to lose ten pounds, set a date by which you want to achieve this goal and indicate it on the chart.

3. Make sections on your chart to include different information. For each day, include the food you ate, how much you spent, how many calories you consumed and your current weight. Create a color or symbol-coded key to keep your chart in order. For example, numbers written in green could indicate the amount of money you spent on food that day.

4. Write notes throughout the day when you do not have access to your chart. It is unlikely you will be standing by your chart at all times, so it is helpful to jot notes throughout the day so you will not forget. Alternatively, you could keep a monthly planner on hand instead of hanging a calendar on the wall.
