Plasma is the yellowish portion of your blood that is easily regenerated by the body. The plasma consists mainly of proteins and water, which is what a body needs to control infection and bleeding. People that donate plasma are paid anywhere from $20 to $30 depending on the agency.
Personal Requirements
Find the closest plasma center in your area to schedule an appointment. You must be at least 18-years-old or maximum 65-years-old. You must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Even people taking medication or that have a medical condition can apply to donate plasma.
The Application
You will need a Social Security card, Wisconsin photo ID and a utility bill or equivilent that has your permanent Wisconsin address on it. During the application process, you will be asked about any medications that you are taking or any medical conditions that you may have.
The Physical
Submit to a complete physical after completing the application. The physical includes weight check, blood pressure check and lab work to test your blood. If you qualify and continue donating plasma, you are required to take a physical once each year after the first donation. Although Wisconsin plasma centers will take all qualifying donors, they are looking for donors that are AB- and AB+. Wisconsin centers work with National Marrow Donor Program to find and register possible bone marrow donors.
First Donation
Arrive at your first appointment at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. You will use a computer with a touch screen to answer a few personal questions. A lab technician will draw some blood to test protein level and anemia. If your lab work shows positive protein levels and no signs of anemia, you will be directed to a donation station. Expect to be at the plasma center for at least an hour if you are a male and possibly an hour and a half if you are a female. You are paid upon completion of your donation
