Is A Burning Sensation A Symptom Of An Std







Burning is a common symptom of some STDs and can occur in both men and women. A burning sensation in the genitals or possibly other places on the body could warrant STD screening. The only way to know that you have an STD and to get proper treatment is be tested.








Gonorrhea


Gonorrhea can cause a burning sensation in the genitals of both men and women. The burning is noticeable during urination and may also cause pain in women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Other symptoms of gonorrhea include discharge (discolored in men), swollen or painful testicles and spotting between periods.


Chlamydia


Chlamydia can also can pain and burning during urination in both men and women. According to the Stanford Sexual Health Peer Resource Center (SHPRC), chlamydia may also cause an urgent need to urinate and itching at the tip of the penis. For more on chlamydia symptoms, see Resources below.


Herpes


Both oral and genital herpes can cause a tinging or burning feeling during prodrome (the earliest symptoms of an outbreak before it occurs) and during an outbreak. The tingling or burning occurs at the site where the sore is or will be.


Bacterial Vaginosis


The CDC reports that bacterial vagninosis can cause a burning sensation during urination as well as itching of the area around the vagina in women. Other symptoms include a foul-smelling discharge that is gray or white in color.


Trichomoniasis


According to the CDC, trichomoniasis may cause burning after urination or ejaculation in men as well as a discharge and irritation of the urethra. It may also cause irritation and itching of the genitals in women.
