Stop Green Algae From Growing On North Foundation Of House

Stopping algae from growing can be a tedious task. Green algae can not only make for slippery surfaces but can also, over time, cause damage to the foundation of your home or other buildings.

Instructions

1. Power wash. Put on gloves and power wash off the existing algae. By getting rid of the existing algae, you can help prevent it from growing and continuing the damage. While power washing off the algae, make sure the siding of the house does not get damaged. If you do not own a power washer, one can be rented at any machine rental store.

2. Find the problem's source. After removing the existing algae, you can then turn your attention to the cause of the problem. Algae normally grows in moist areas or foundations where the water run off from the house collects.

3. Clean gutters. On a secure ladder, inspect the gutter system. After cleaning the gutters, make sure that the gutter's drain is in the proper place. By pouring water down the gutter you can tell how the water is collecting at the bottom by the house. Make sure that the gutter is draining properly away from the house or away from the place where the algae was growing.

4. Conduct upkeep. After the initial cleaning has been accomplished, you can now make sure that the existing algae has been removed for good. To make sure the problem has been resolved, there are numerous products to choose from that effectively remove and kill algae. You will be able to shop and compare prices of many products that are nontoxic and environmentally friendly that can be purchased at your local hardware store.
