Although there are many drugs and methods of modern treatment used to cure pneumonia--an inflammatory disease of the lower respiratory tract--a few natural remedies can heal the condition quite effectively too.
Fenugreek and Garlic Oil
Drink as many as 4 cups of fenugreek seed tea with some lime juice daily during the primary phase of acute pneumonia. This will aid in sweating, which will in turn, remove toxins from the body and get rid of the accompanying fever. Do not take any other form of nutrition during this therapy. Carry on with this for a few days, letting the fenugreek help the fasting body rectify the troubles in the respiratory tract. Adequate amounts of garlic paste massaged on the chest can also help in reducing body temperature, and improve pulse and breathing in two days.
Sesame Seeds and Parsnip
A quarter liter of water infused with about 15 grams of sesame seeds, along with a table spoon full of linseed oil, a dessert spoon full of honey and a little bit of cinnamon is known to be beneficial in eliminating bronchial accumulation of catarrh and phlegm, leading to healing of the condition of pneumonia. The juice of the leaves and roots of properly cultivated parsnip is known to have immense therapeutic value for the bronchial tubes and lungs. This is because of the effect of chlorine and phosphorus content of parsnip. A juice remedy of this vegetable, taken a quarter liter by the patient every day will help in healing pneumonia.
Juices and Turpentine Oil
Juices made from carrots, spinach, cucumber and beets also help in reducing pneumonia symptoms. This is especially significant in the early stages of the disease when you should completely forsake all kinds of food for a glass of warm water-diluted fruit or vegetable juice, eight to 12 times a day, after which the fever will subside. Fresh fruit juices should be introduced in the diet after this. Massaging turpentine oil on the rib cage and keeping the area covered with soft cotton cloth or cotton wool is also known to provide relief from unease caused by pneumonia.
General Measures
Avoid alcoholic beverages and refined foods like flour, white sugar---all of which are tough on the stomach. Stay away from smoking as this leads to hindrance for oxygen to reach the lungs. A healthy diet includes plenty of fresh fruits like apples and pineapples. Try to include turmeric, ginger, garlic and black pepper into your cooking as all of these are known to have beneficial properties in the treatment of pneumonia.
