While most people tend to think of salt as white and nondescript, exotic sea salt comes in several interesting colors. Large salt rocks make for a beautiful and interesting foundation for an earthy centerpiece design, especially when combined with other appropriate visual elements.
Instructions
1. Select a dish for your centerpiece. Choose a neutral-colored dish such as a clear, black, white or earth-tone piece. Make sure the dish is small enough that the salt rocks you have cover most of it. If possible, get a plate that's flat rather than tapered to the center as this makes it easier to arrange objects.
2. Choose decorative objects to use with the salt rocks in the display.
3. Decide which rock pieces to use. Get a balanced variety of sizes, shapes and colors.
4. Give the salt rocks a coat of water-resistant sealant using a craft brush. This helps prevent the rocks from melting or forming small crystals on their surfaces if they are exposed to damp air.
5. Arrange the rocks and other objects. Start with the large objects, then fill in with the small ones. If you have a single object that's markedly different from the others (such as an especially large salt rock or a single candle), place it at the center of the arrangement.
6. Glue the centerpiece in place. To create a permanent centerpiece that retains its shaped when moved, glue each object in place using a strong work glue or epoxy.
