Reiki therapy involves a transfer of energy from the practitioner to the client in order to relax the client and promote healing. While a Reiki table is not always necessary -- you can perform a Reiki treatment with the client standing or seated -- it can prove a worthwhile investment if you are a certified Reiki therapist and you wish to take on clients in a professional capacity. Be prepared to spend several hundred dollars at a minimum.
Pros and Cons of Table Types
Consider what you like and dislike about message and Reiki tables you've seen or been on yourself. Some massage tables can serve as Reiki tables, but that doesn't mean that just any message table will do. Consider whether or not you want an open headrest or no headrest at all because you will provide your clients with pillows. Consider whether or not you want tables that stay in one piece or ones that let you slip out sections or rest the client's legs on separate stirrups. Make a list of every feature that you want in your Reiki table so you can easily dismiss those that don't meet your standards.

According to Reiki beliefs, some materials promote energy flow better than others. For example, wood may absorb too much negative energy, while metal helps increase the flow of your energy. Choose a table with a metal base, unless you want to sage the wooden table frequently to remove the toxins. Keep the area below the table clear. Don't opt for message tables full of bars and supports below the table. A Reiki therapist needs the area below the table to be clear for when she sits and performs treatment.
Portable or Stable
Opt for portability, depending on your Reiki practice. If you travel and treat clients while on the go or you visit clients' homes to treat them, a Reiki table that easily collapses and travels well is a must. If you perform treatments only from your office or home, portability is not an issue, and you may be able to opt for larger, more stable designs.
Comparison Shop
Compare prices and reviews. Once you have a clear idea of the table for which you're looking, do an online price comparison and review search. Specialty stores as well as some larger chains stock Reiki tables and feature online reviews. You can also visit online Reiki communities and ask other therapists what they like and dislike about their tables. You need not spend a large amount of money, especially if you find a cheaper design that other Reiki professionals have agreed will serve. However, be cautious about saving money by purchasing used Reiki tables, as they may be dirty or torn.
