Burn Sage In A New Home

Smoldering sage leaves clean the negative energy in a person, place or thing.

When people buy a new home, they hope their new residence will be a safe and healthy place to live. Some who are sensitive to spiritual energies or who choose to spiritually cleanse and dedicate the home may choose to burn sage as a purification ceremony in the new home. People have burned sage to cleanse and purify space for hundreds of years. Whether they choose to burn sage as incense sticks, loose sage leaves or a smudge stick, the process remains the same.

Instructions

1. Set your intention to purge the negative energies from your new home and to bring forth clean, positive energies that will energize and uplift your family. Create a visual representation of what that means in your mind and ask God, the Universe or your spirit guides to purify and consecrate the space as a loving home. Accompany your sage ceremony with spiritual music, if you desire.

2. Start the sage burning with a lighter or candle. Allow the sage to fully burn for a few seconds before putting out the flames and allowing the sage to smolder. You may want to carry your smoldering sage in an abalone shell or a ceramic dish so the ashes and herbs don't drop on the floor or carpet.

3. Swirl the smoke around you from feet to crown as you pray that your house may nurture and protect your family. Ask for the universe's riches blessings on all who enter your home.

4. Begin smudging in the room where you lit the sage. Pass the sage around the door so the smoke swirls around the doorframe. Direct the smoke into corners and crevices with a feather or your waving hand. Walk around the room in a clockwise direction, sending the smoke into corners, closets, around windows and into the drawers and cabinets in the room. Pass the sage clockwise in the center of the room so that the smoke has drifted throughout the room.

5. Move to the next room and repeat the process until every room in your home has been smudged. Extinguish the sage when you finish the last room by pressing it against the side of the shell or container or pushing it into a mound of clean sand.

6. Open the windows and allow the breeze to carry the residual smoke out of your home. Close the windows when the air is clear and clean. Thank God, the Universe or your spirit guides for cleansing your home.
