Apply Silvadene

Silvadene Cream, generically known as silver sulfadiazine, is a drug available by prescription to treat people with second and third degree burns. Burns may result in bacterial and fungal infections. Silvadene Cream eliminates the fungus or bacteria caused by the burns.This helps to prevent infection and heal the wounds. The cream is applied topically, and it is often used in conjunction with other medications for best results.


Instructions


1. Get a prescription for Silvadene cream from your physician. Silvadene cream is a soft, white cream that comes in a 50 gram jars and 20 and 85 gram tubes.


2. Gently cleanse the wound or wounds with soap and water. Pat dry.


3. Wearing a sterile glove, squeeze a small amount of Silvadene onto the fingertips of the glove. Apply it directly to the wound if you are using the Silvadene in the tube. Each section of the wound should be coated with a layer of approximately one-sixteenth of an inch in thickness. If more product is needed, squeeze more Silvadene on the glove.


4. Scoop out a small amount of Silvadene using the tongue blade if your Silvadene is in a jar. Thinly coat the affected area with the Silvadene, with a layer of one-sixteenth of an inch in thickness. Do not dip the applicator back into the jar; use a new one if more product is needed.








5. Place a gauze dressing over the affected area. Wrap the dressing with gauze netting or gauze wrap to hold it in place.








6. Apply to the affected area or areas once or twice a day.
