What Is The Chinese Herb Yu Jin

Yu Jin is an herb used in food and alternative medicine.


Yu Jin is the Chinese name for turmeric root tuber. Yu Jin's pharmaceutical name is Tuber Curcumae. It is an herb used in cooking and in alternative Chinese medicine.


Manufacturing


Yu Jin comes from a plant that is harvested, dried and ground. The packaged herb should be stored in a cool, dry place.


Cooking Uses


Yu Jin is a component of curry. It is sometimes used as an ingredient in mustards and relishes. Yu Jin is also used for coloring food.


Medical Uses


Yu Jin is used in alternative medicine for pain relief, gallbladder, lung and liver function, jaundice, headaches, premenstrual syndrome and depression. Yu Jin is also used in combination with other herbs to form different preparations. The herb is thought to be an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antacid and cortisone producer.


Dosage


When used in alternative medicine, the average dose of Yu Jin is 1.5 to 3 grams per day. This is the dose whether used alone or in combination with other herbs.
